This is a vintage Ronson pocket lighter featuring a mother-of-pearl mosaic tile body.

The Art Metal Works company, which later became known simply as Ronson, originated as a specialty metal goods manufacturer in Newark, New Jersey, before revolutionizing the smoking accessory industry with the introduction of the 'Banjo' lighter in 1926. Their subsequent pocket lighters utilized advanced one-touch mechanisms that allowed users to press down to ignite and release to extinguish with a single fluid motion. These mechanical innovations made Ronson one of the preeminent luxury lighter brands of the mid-20th century. During the 1930s and 1950s, Ronson frequently offered models embellished with decorative cladding, including various exotic woods, enamels, and iridescent mother-of-pearl mosaic tiles. Skilled artisans individually cut and set these delicate shell tiles into metal housings to create unique geometric patterns that appealed to affluent smokers of the era. These decorative pocket lighters were often retailed in elegant presentation boxes and served as popular gifts for special occasions.
