This is a circular, green uranium glass flower frog from the Depression era.
Depression glass refers to a category of inexpensive, mass-produced glassware made in the United States from the 1920s to the 1940s, during the Great Depression. It was often given away as a promotional item by businesses, movie theaters, and as premiums in cereal boxes. Uranium glass, also known as Vaseline glass when it has a distinct yellow-green hue, is glass that has had uranium oxide added to the mixture, giving it a characteristic fluorescence under ultraviolet light. This type of glass was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the Depression era. Flower frogs, also known as floral frogs or kenzans, are devices used to hold flowers in place in a vase or container. They typically have holes or pins through which the stems of the flowers are inserted. Depression-era flower frogs, especially those made from collectible materials like uranium glass, are sought after by collectors for their historical significance, unique aesthetic, and the novelty of their fluorescence.
