R. Ruen Inkwell

Hand-painted Delft-style ceramic inkwell with pewter lids, signed R. Ruen, circa 1880–1920, Netherlands or France. Delftware — tin-glazed pottery characterised by blue and white decoration imitating Chinese porcelain — was mastered by Dutch potteries from the 17th century. This signed inkwell, with its distinctive Delft-style painted decoration and pewter fittings, is an exceptional piece combining two fine craft traditions. Artist-signed examples with original metalwork lids are uncommon and highly sought after.
