This is an antique German porcelain handled serving plate with hand-painted floral decals and gold trim.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, European porcelain manufacturers produced an abundance of decorative serving ware tailored to the Victorian and Edwardian dining table. Factories across Germany, Austria, and France utilized advanced decal transfer techniques combined with hand-applied gilding and molded reliefs to create ornate serving pieces. These items were widely exported and became staples of bourgeois domestic hospitality on both sides of the Atlantic. The popularity of floral motifs during this period reflected a broader cultural fascination with nature and botanical illustration. Pierced side handles and elaborate scalloped rims were standard embellishments designed to add elegance and practical utility to cake plates and vegetable dishes. Today, these surviving domestic wares offer a tangible link to the elaborate tablescapes of the Belle Époque era.
