Iridescent carnival glass goblet with pressed pattern and multicolor sheen.
History & Background
Carnival glass was produced in large quantities in the United States from around 1908 through the 1930s, initially by Fenton Art Glass and subsequently by many other manufacturers. Originally called "poor man's Tiffany," it was made by pressing molten glass into patterned molds and then spraying the surface with metallic salts to create an iridescent finish. Today, carnival glass is one of the most actively collected categories of antique glass, with a dedicated collector community and regular shows and auctions.
